Four New Events for Cordova Towne

We had our planning meeting tonight and it went really well. Thank you so much for all who came. Based on our conversation tonight, we came up with four new neighborhood events as well as some other thoughts to share. We hope they sound good to you too. We can't wait!!!! They are also posted on the neighborhood site with more details under the "Events" section:
Please mark your calendars.

1. Volleyball Night: Wednesday, 08/29/07 at Whiterock Park beginning at 6:30pm. We'll hang out and play some volleyball. Yee-ha. Cold drinks provided.

2. Pumpkin Carving: Saturday, 10/27/07 (time and details TBA, for children and adults alike).

3. Cookie Exchange: Saturday, 12/08/07 from 7:00-9:00pm at a house TBA. We'll get together, exchange cookies, drink hot chocolate, and enjoy the holiday season a bit together.

4. Christmas Caroling: Saturday, 12/08/07 from 5:30-7:00pm. We'll go around in a group to sing songs through the neighborhood before our cookie event. Details TBA. Anyone is welcome. Let's have fun. :)

5. A Block Party in September?: This is on the table for discussion, but the big question is whether people would come. We simply need to determine if this is a relevant desire for neighbors. If people will come, we will build it (Field of Dreams). Please give feedback for that, okay, and then we'll move forward or give it the axe and maybe do it next year. Please ask your neighbors too to see if this is a felt need.

If you have any ideas for other events or would like to partner with us in the planning of these ones, speak on. We'd love to see more and more neighbors getting involved to help live out their dreams for the neighborhood.

Important Walking Nights Detail:
The updated flyers going out this week will let everyone know that we think it is a good idea to have everyone meet on Croydon Way at 6:30pm on July 25th and then we can all walk together. The last event was amazing in terms of relationship, but we'd like to beef up the whole "walking" part this time, especially since the Mayor is coming and we'll get to show him the neighborhood and talk with him. So show up at 6:30pm and then we'll leave after a bit of time, walk on a specific mapped out route, and then come back to hang out until 8:00pm when we have the raffle. Please also invite your neighbors to participate since the goal is to be more connected as a neighborhood.

Other thoughts:
These are other thoughts from the Planning Meeting and also through email from neighbors:
- It would be nice to have a Mom's Play Group every once in a while to get all Moms and children together.
- Not all events have to be geared toward children because not everyone has kids.
- It would be really nice to have regular neighborhood gatherings.
- What would it take to get a Neighborhood Watch going?
- We want to see neighbors talking to each other regularly.
- We would love to see an emphasis on Christmas lights this year and in years to come. Let's grow into being a neighborhood that others would love to drive through because we decorate so well. This will take a while to integrate, but if we can, let's begin to take steps to move in that direction.
- In time, it might be a good idea to do after-school tutoring at the apartments.
- What happened to the supposed renovation of Whiterock Park? Did the renovations fall through the cracks? It would be wonderful to have a park that we would actually go to because it had working bathrooms and a safe vibe to it. "We drive to other parks" is a sentiment common to many neighbors we think.
