Block Potluck BBQ: New Location
There has been a bit of a change in plans for the "Block Party". It will still be on Saturday, September 22nd at 6pm as we decided, but the location will now be on Betlen Court instead of Croydon Way (Betlen Ct. is off of Winchester). A core Cordova Towne couple volunteered their location on Betlen Ct. upon request. Also, the name "Block Party" is being changed to "Block Potluck BBQ" because "Block Party" may imply live music, bounce houses, face painting, etc.. whereas "Block Potluck BBQ" implies a neighborhood communal feast and enjoying time together (and we may really still have live music and possibly a bounce house, but there is less pressure to pull off a huge sounding event).
This decision was made for several reasons:
1. It is good to have neighborhood events throughout the neighborhood rather than simply on Croydon. There are several core Cordova Towne neighborhood leaders/households on Croydon, so there are events going on there, but it is healthy to have things occur elsewhere. Neighborhood leaders and those working with The Cordova Towne Neighborhood Association span throughout the neighborhood and not just on the Western front.
2. A Court of such small size has no traffic and will be easier to manage kids.
3. The location is in the middle of the neighborhood rather than on the Western end and so it may be more accessible for residents.
So we will go ahead with everything that we have planned thus far, but the only thing that will change is the location. That's it. Easy stuff. Let's keep moving forward to have a fantastic time.
NOTE: Flyers will be ready to go out next week. Anyone want to help out with passing them out? Four volunteers is ideal. This wave of flyers will actually have all events from now through December 2007, so there may not need to be another wave of flyers for a while (well, we'll see about that, but that certainly is the hope). The goal of this flyer is to communicate more readily with the neighborhood about events over several months, plan ahead, and get dates of events in the hands of people who do not have access to the Internet. This is really a step in the direction of helping to communicate more effectively.
